At the end, there is a plea for donations to the Red Cross. I can tell you that in my time in Rockaway, I’ve seen ONE Red Cross vehicle serving people food. Residents asked us frequently if we knew where Red Cross and FEMA were.

Where help is desperately needed, it is the community fulfilling those needs. Occupy, individual volunteers, small businesses and churches are there. If you have money to donate, please prioritize getting help and resources to these communities over a tax deduction.
